SAMPLE 3

Four people are going to different concerts which were attended by 1500, 2000, 3000 and 5000 spectators.

(1) The concert that took place in Boston had fewer than 3000 attendees.
(2) There were more attendees at the jazz concert than at the one that Pam went to.
(3) Kristin went to the blues concert in Boston.
(4) The jazz concert was in Chicago.
(5) There were more attendees at the blues concert than at the one that took place in New York.
(6) The concert that Angie went to had less than 3000 attendees.
(7) The rock concert had 3000 attendees.

Step 1:

Start by placing the easy assumptions, here numbers (3), (4) and (7). Press submit on the solution to lock this information in place. This will allow you to better see the information you are sure about by showing it in green.
attendees Kristin blues Boston
attendees person jazz Chicago
3000 person rock city
attendees person style city

Step 2:

In the column for the style of music, there is only one open box. All you have to do is click on it to make the missing value appear. Thus we discover the fourth style of music: rap.
attendees Kristin blues Boston
attendees person jazz Chicago
3000 person rock city
attendees person rap city

Step 3:

The introduction to the puzzle indicates that there were 1500, 2000, 3000, and 5000 people in attendance at the concerts. There were more spectators at the jazz concert than at the one that Pam went to (2), so the jazz concert had more than 1500 attendees. Likewise, there were more attendees at the blues concert than at the one that took place in New York, therefore, the blues concert had more than 1500 attendees. Thus, the rap concert had 1500 attendees.
attendees Kristin blues Boston
attendees person jazz Chicago
3000 person rock city
1500 person rap city

Step 4:

With the arrows on the side, you can change the order of the lines to put rap on the first line. By arranging the known information in order, it is easier to work out the rest of the puzzle.
1500 person rap city
attendees Kristin blues Boston
3000 person rock city
attendees person jazz Chicago

Step 5:

The concert that took place in Boston had less than 3000 attendees (1). Since the concerts had 1500, 2000, 3000 and 5000 attendees, the only possibility is that the concert in Boston had 2000 attendees. You can deduce that there were 5000 attendees at the jazz concert in Chicago (it’s the last possible value).
1500 person rap city
2000 Kristin blues Boston
3000 person rock city
5000 person jazz Chicago

Step 6:

The concert that Angie went to had less than 3000 attendees (6). You can deduce that there were 1500 attendees at the concert that Angie went to.
1500 Angie rap city
2000 Kristin blues Boston
3000 person rock city
5000 person jazz Chicago

Step 7:

There were more attendees at the jazz concert than at the one that Pam attended (2). Therefore, Pam did not go to the jazz concert, and instead went to the rock concert. Likewise, there were more attendees at the blues concert than at the one that took place in New York (5). Thus, it is the rap concert (1500 attendees) that took place in New York.
1500 Angie rap New York
2000 Kristin blues Boston
3000 Pam rock city
5000 person jazz Chicago

Step 8:

Finally, the only thing left to do is click on the last two empty boxes to discover the last show and city.
1500 Angie rap New York
2000 Kristin blues Boston
3000 Pam rock San Diego
5000 Carol jazz Chicago
